Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnotherapy harnesses the power of the subconscious mind to help you identify and let go of self-limiting beliefs. It leverages various techniques, such as guided imagery, meditation, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), gestalt therapy, parts therapy, and dreamwork, among others. These techniques target the root causes of undesirable behaviours, making it possible to replace negative thought patterns with more positive and constructive beliefs.

The cost of a hypnotherapy session depends on the practitioner you choose to see. Rates can range from $100-400 a session, based on experience and training, (typically $200-$350 for Mind Body Health in Auckland). Please refer to our Find A Hypnotherapist page, for a Hypnotherapist around New Zealand, and click for detailed information on individual practitioner rates.

The timeline for noticeable changes can vary greatly from person to person, depending on factors like individual receptiveness and the specific issue being addressed. Some people see instant results, others it make take a month to see results. However, hypnotherapy is often praised for its potential to bring about dramatic changes in behaviour more quickly than some traditional therapies.

Being in a state of hypnosis often feels like a deep state of relaxation and tranquility. It’s a deeply healing state that can leave you feeling revitalised.

Absolutely. Many of us carry the burden of past painful experiences and self-imposed limitations that prevent us from realizing our true potential. Hypnotherapy offers a means to confront and overcome these barriers, fostering personal growth and paving the way for a more fulfilling, rewarding life.

Please keep in mind that while hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for change, it isn’t a magic fix. Its effectiveness largely depends on your willingness and commitment to make positive changes in your life.

While deep relaxation can feel similar to the brink of sleep, most people remain awake during hypnosis. Rest assured, even if you do happen to fall asleep, your subconscious mind will continue to absorb the therapeutic suggestions, and you remain in control throughout the process.

No, it’s impossible to get stuck in hypnosis. All hypnotic trances eventually end, either formally by the therapist or naturally by you.

No. During hypnosis, you maintain full control and will never act contrary to your ethical standards or personal comfort. Our role as hypnotherapists is to facilitate your personal growth while respecting your values and privacy. Rest assured, your session is confidential.

The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on the complexity of the issue you wish to address. Some individuals might find one session sufficient, while others may need up to four to six sessions to achieve their therapeutic goals.

American Health Magazine reported the following findings from a study.

• Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions

• Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions

• Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery after 6 sessions

Given we are highly trained hypnotherapists, and we founded the Integrative Hypnotherapy Institute to train others in hypnotherapy, we have success rates in the high 90’s after 1 or 2 sessions.
